About the Author
Best-selling author Daniel F. Hinkel, JD, is Vice President and legal counsel for ING Investment Management, LLC. Mr. Hinkel was a real estate instructor for more than twenty years with the National Center for Paralegal Training in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a former member of the Task Force for Paralegal Regulation for the State Bar of Georgia and former chief of the ABA Standing Committee on Legal Assistants and the Approval Commission for Paralegal Legal Studies Programs. Mr. Hinkel received his Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from the University of Illinois. About the Author
Robert Kulacz, DDS received his dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry, and he received post-graduate training in implant surgery and implant restoration sponsored by Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn N.Y. He abandoned much of his traditional dental practice after learning of the risks of some of the dental procedures he was performing. His first book, The Roots of Disease, with co-author Dr. Tom Levy was published in 2002. It introduced many of the concepts that The Toxic Tooth now greatly expands upon.

Thomas E. Levy, MD, JD is a board-certified cardiologist and the author of Primal Panacea and Curing the Incurable: Vitamin C, Infectious Diseases, and Toxins; plus three other groundbreaking medical books. Best book ever on the science and dangers of root canals

After having practiced biological dentistry for over 20 years, and having extracted thousands of root canal teeth, I have seen first hand the damage done by this procedure. I have also seen my patients almost always have health improvements, especially if strict safety protocols are used (intravenous vitamin C, ligament removal, and ozone irrigation). In dental school we are trained to believe that a root canal is safe. Since when has a dead body part been safe? Gangrene is poisonous no matter how high tech and how well the procedure is done. Only those with strong immune systems, high anti-oxidant reserves, and ideal cellular metabolisms can withstand the out gassing from within a root canal. And those folks who have this level of health do not usually need root canals. So, in my opinion, root canals only add fuel to an already burning fire called "disease". Just because a tooth is sensitive does not mean kill the tooth. Only a dentist that understands how to heal your tooth can prevent you from having root canals in the first place. Do your own research. This book is very well researched, backed by facts, and presented in such a way that the reader can understand.

If you're considering a root canal or dental implant -- READ THIS BOOK FIRST!

I had a root canal nearly 2 years ago and have had problems ever since. Then had another one this spring and now both teeth are inflamed and I've been miserable. Also, I had a titanium implant in the fall of 2009 and by the spring of 2010 had been diagnosed with an immune system deficiency. I never knew why. Now that I've read this amazing book, filled with much backed-up research, I can tell you that I'm fairly certain my immune system issue is due to the titanium implant. After reading this book, I was able to locate (what I'd call) a more holistic-type dentist who is working with me to correct some of these issues. Upon review of x-rays, it shows that my body is, indeed, rejecting my implant. I'm scheduled to have both of my root canal teeth removed, as one is most likely fractured and the other shows signs of abscess in the x-rays.
This was a very informative book and I'd highly recommend it to anyone contemplating a root canal and/or implants!! Easy to read and understand. From the bottom of my heart, I'd like to thank Dr. Kulacz for stepping up and filling us in on what really happens when a root canal is performed. I'll never have another one!

I use to have bad ringing in my ears and that is reduced by ...

Everyone should read this BEFORE THEY CONSIDER GETTING A ROOT CANAL, I just had 3 root canals removed and 5 metal crowns changed. I use to have bad ringing in my ears and that is reduced by 40%. I had the work done after a MD said read this book and remove them. For 4 yrs i have had my lump nodes inflamed real bad, its been 1 month since the root canals were removed and i haven't had a problem. DENTIST SHOULD HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK. THE RESEARCH IS THERE INSTEAD OF CAUSING MEDICAL HARM TO SO MANY PATIENTS

EYEWITNESS FINALLY DOES THE BALTIC !

The master of guide books finally did one of my favourite regions ... Estonia & the Baltic !! I've been hoping for several years and jumped on this first edition as soon as it came out. Despite the fact that I go to Estonia at least once a year for a break from the faster paced part of Europe I live in; I have discovered many new bits of info in this book that compliment the knowledge I have accumulated over the years. Knowing the area quite well, both Winter & Summer, I can vouch for the accuracy of the tourist information throughout the country. In fact, the special regional coverage of the Lake Peipsi, K�smu Boulder Peninsula, Lahemaa National Park, Saaremaa Island are well done to cover all the options for a first time visitor. Tallinn has been very well presented with photos of some of the less noted, but very charming architetural details you'll find through out the city as you stroll the medieval streets. As always Eyewitness has it all ... the maps, info and details down to a T. It's as user friendly and welcoming as the Estonians themselves ! I only wish I had had this guide when I first started going to Estonia as it would have made the preparatives so much easier !!! Next stop is Latvia and you can guess who is going to be prepping & accompanying me on that trip !!

Planning for a trip to Latvia?...buy this book

My wife and I are planning a business / 20th wedding anniversary trip to Latvia. We have pre-booked several events and this guide has been helpful for us as we know more about where we are going to be. Plus it gives some local phrases in the native language. I would recommend it to anyone. Job well done

Eyewitness guide good as always

So this review is really for the series, not this specific book, mainly because I haven't taken this trip yet.
I love the DK Eyewitness travel guides, and for me they are as much of a souvenir as any bought during a trip, my shelf of them brings back many memories. But that doesn't mean they are right for everyone. Other guide books give much better practical information for budget, or on their own travelers, and I use them also. But as far as describing the sights and attractions of a city or area, the photos and quick blurbs go a long way. I find reading these books before arrival gives me a better idea of what I'd like to see, and a great deal of that is due to the photographs.
The maps for each area are useful, but only for that area; they don't connect to other areas very clearly. I always carry the freebie map from the tourist info center in my pocket. And I have noticed that, sometimes, some areas of larger cities are completely ignored, another reason to get a map.
Use these guides as a "What to" instead of a "How to" and you will be happy with them.

About the Author
Harry Binswanger earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from Columbia University in 1973. He has taught philosophy at several universities, most recently at the University of Texas, Austin. An associate of Ayn Rand's in her final years, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Ayn Rand Institute since 1986. He is the author of The Biological Basis of Teleological Concepts and the editor of The Ayn Rand Lexicon and the expanded second edition of Ayn Rand’s Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology. “How We Know” by Harry Binswanger is a book on human epistemology from the perspective of the philosophy of Ayn Rand, known as Objectivism. Covering a wide scope of information on how the human mind works and how we use concepts to come to understand the world, Binswanger starts at the perceptually self evidence, through the axioms, through concept formation, through higher-level concepts, to propositions and generalizations, to logic, and to principles; including induction and deduction; with a special chapter on free will in man; and a philosophical overview of how various philosophical views regarding the human mind have effected the history of philosophical thought. One of the remarkable things about how the book is written is that it is fully objective. Objectivity consists of maintaining logic, context, and hierarchy. Logic is non-contradictory identification, context is insuring one keeps each bit of knowledge integrated with the rest of one's consciousness, and hierarchy means that some things have to be learned and understood before one can move on to issues related to but following from those previous thoughts. While the book is based on Objectivism and Ayn Rand's philosophy, one need not be familiar with Ayn Rand to be able to read it, since Binswanger gives many examples and demonstrations of the functioning of the human mind that even a beginner reader of philosophy can follow rather easily.

There is one drawback to the book, as far as I can tell; Binswanger does not discuss the role of good art in cognition. “How We Know” is a very comprehensive book on the topic, and it is very difficult to keep all of that information in mind. In the following review, I wrote a review of each chapter shortly after reading it, and I am finding it difficult to condense my review down to a page or two. So, what is needed to help keep a complicated topic in mind is a concretization of that topic, which is provided by good, objective art. One can say, in this context, that “How We Know” is like looking into the inner workings of the mind of an inductive Sherlock Holmes observing how his own mind works, and telling the rest of the world what he discovered.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to the reader who is interested in how we go about knowing the world.

Incredibly smart, precise and thought provoking

I was not familiarized with Dr. Binswanger's theory of epistemology. This book has answered my past doubts on the topics he touches and solved many more thoughts which came along. Many chapters capitalize Dr. Binswanger's genius (my own favorite is the one on Free Will), but the greatest achievement of this book is integration, i.e.: the ability to connect concepts, ideas and principles to each other making a whole inseparable system.
This is a book which any people interested in philosophy -be it a future intellectual, a college student seeking for answers or a philosopher with a PhD- should read.
