About the Author
Norma Broude and Mary D. Garrard are professors of art history at the American University in Washington, D.C., and are leading scholars in the field of feminist art history. Broude is the author of The Macchiaioli: Italian Painters of the Nineteenth Century (1987), Impressionism, A Feminist Reading: The Gendering of Art, Science, and Nature in the Nineteenth Century (1991), and Georges Seurat (1992). Garrard has written articles and reviews on feminism and art history, Jacopo Sansovino, Michelangelo and Raphael, and Renaissance sculpture. She is the author of Artemisia Gentileschi: The Image of the Female Hero in Italian Baroque Art (1989) and, with Broude, the coeditor of Feminism and Art History: Questioning the Litany (1982).

The essential overview of feminist art history

This is essential reading for anyone interested in feminist art history. It was one of the earlier scholarly compliations of critical articles concerning issues in visual representation of women as subject and by women as artists. Ranging from a study of images of women in Greek art, to an analysis of the psycho-social motivations of 20th century Expressionism, to an investigation of American quilting and its influence on contemporary art, each essay contributes to our understanding of paradigms which are basic in forming a new context-- a context which is needed to re-examine the white, Western male canon of standard art histories. The essays also provide a fundamental vocabulary for investigation of specific works, and aptly balance the feminist positions about art with vital, challenging interpretations of cultural conditions and biases which have affected our perception of gender and the place of art in societies over time. The introduction by the editors defines the content, nuance and strategy of the feminist art historical project and is as pertinent today as it was twenty years ago. I would recommend this book as a useful starting point for research and education; and for students, teachers or anyone willing to cast off the blinders of assumed histories.

The most comprehensive, objective text I have ever read on feminism within an art-historical and contemporary context PERIOD. good detailed info for its size. lots of small towns, lakes, and road # shown. medium & large rivers are labeled. a has spot elevations bur could use more. a very good reference map, and seems better than the European produced similar unit.

National geo maps are always the best, the plastic coating on them is helpful when your in the car and you spill a little something on it, alot of foreign county's don't have gps. if they do there are, they are not as in depth as the map

This manual-style book instantly dives into Eckhart Tolle's principles of "living in the moment," which could be a jarring experience for readers who haven't read his preceding book, The Power of Now. For the initiated, though, this makes an excellent companion guide--rich in exercises and meditations to help readers get out of their minds so they can live more peacefully in their bodies. Sometimes it's hard to fathom what on earth Tolle is talking about: "To regain awareness of Being and to abide in that state of 'feeling-realization' is enlightenment." Be patient. All concepts will be revealed (or at least more carefully explained). Ultimately, Tolle leads readers into a new form of thinking (or actually not thinking) that erases the consuming habits of waiting, worrying, and being in fear. The first step is ending the "delusion of time." He asks, "Are you always trying to get somewhere other than where you are? ... Is most of your doing just a means to an end?" If so, Tolle has a book full of advice for you. Practicing the Power of Now - A Powerful Life Changing Experience

This book has changed my life. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to get in touch with his or her inner self and live a more peaceful life. Every time I read this book, and I have read it several times, I learn something else about myself. You can recommend this book to others, but they have to be ready for it. My sister tried to introduce me to Eckhart Tolle last year, but I wasn't ready for him so I didn't bother to purchase his books. I have learned that when it's time for something to change in your life, you will know it. Love this book and other Exkhart Tolle's books. I have practiced meditation for many years, meditating twice a day. Now I can meditate anytime and that's a wonderful feeling knowing that I don't have to wait for a specific time to be at peace. I walk through the park now and I actually hear the birds or the other sounds around me. That's a WOW for me. I accept others more and am aware of when I am judging them or other things around me. More and more I am in control of my thinking and that's powerful. All of this came about as a result of reading this book. Buy this book and you will understand what I am saying; that is, if you are ready for change in your life. Powerful book!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has the courage to ...

I am eighty four years of age and the last fifty five of that I have progressively came to the conclusion that I am not this body, not this mind but something far greater, but could not put that into proper perspective. then a dear friend who knew how I was wrestling with that brought me a plaque that said [Just as the sea is all of the wave, and the wave only part of the sea, so am I a part of God and god is all of me] I came to believe that whole heartedly, but still could not understand how I might bring that feeling to life. Eckhart Tolle teaches that it is necessary is to bring ourselves to that feeling which is life. I not only read this book but I study it and shows me that the gut feeling I have had all these many years was not just some nutty idea, Eckharts The Power of Now shows the way. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has the courage to question conventional wisdom and flawed teaching. You too can find the way.

Helped with anxiety

I suffered from severe anxiety, panic attacks, and mild depression. I purchased so many books and programs over the years and had little or no luck with them. I can't remember when and why I purchased The Power of Now but I randomly decided to read it. Actually, I think I was desperate and was hoping I would find the answer to my problems by re-reading all the books I purchased. Well, I'm so glad I did because it has helped me tremendously. I listen to this Audible version during my daily commute. It's great. I can now separate myself from my anxious mind and feel calm and peaceful.

About the Author
Stuart M. Wentworth received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University, Alabama, in 1982 and his M.S. (1987) and Ph.D. (19990) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. he has been a member of the Electrical & Computer Engineering faculty at Auburn University, Alabama since 1990. Dr. Wentworth's research has focused on the high frequency characterization of materials used for electronics packaging. He is the author of Fundamentals of Electromagnetics with Engineering Applications (Wiley). Dr. Wentworth has received numerous teaching awards at Auburn University, including the Birdsong Merit Teaching Award in 1999. He is a Senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

This book is amazing!! Out of all my electrical engineering classes so far, this book is the best! It has step-by-step examples with lots of diagrams. I haven't yet looked at the included MatLab programs, but I'm sure they're really good as well. If you're taking electromagnetics, even if this isn't your required textbook, get it! It will help you A TON!

Applied Electromagnetic; Early Transmission Lines

I first studied Electromagnetics many decades ago. I bought this book to review the material and because it includes MATLAB code. The book does provide these, and I am satisfied with it. In my opinion, it would be a good book for students, because of the many practical examples of how electromagnetics is used. Many books only present a bunch of facts and equations; a beginner might only see abstract ideas, with no notion that these ideas are useful in the physical world. This book starts by introducing transmission lines, and then keeps adding complexity until it explains Maxwell's Equations approximately half-way through the book. There might be some that do not consider this "pure", and think that Maxwell's Equations should be introduced at the beginning, with everything else an application of these equations. The problem with this approach might be, again, that they would just seem like four abstract, meaningless equations to a beginning student. The "Early Transmission Line" approach begins with something less abstract, and more familiar to the student. There is a problem, however, that the transmission line model in only an approximation to the reality of Maxwell's Equations. At each point in the development, up to the point Maxwell's Equations are introduced, the student must be told that what she was just taught was only an approximation, and now a less approximate model must be introduced. Faced with the choice of either introducing the subject with a model a student can relate to, but is approximate; or one that makes no sense to them, but is not an approximation; I think I would choose the former, if I were a teacher.
