Excellent.

In the book When No One's Watching, authors Geller and Veazie weave a fictional tale to present to the reader, in an easily digestible format, numerous ideas and theories that are the result of years of research by many different scholars on human motivation and behavior. They emphasize the practical application of these theories in a workplace setting, combining them to develop a specific management style as well as policies to be implemented that would result in happier employees who are motivated to help the company succeed. Even though the overall story is fictional, the results that are described after the specific processes are implemented at each company are far from the typical academic pipe-dream; Geller and Veazie both have many years of experience in industry, and have witnessed firsthand the resultant successes at companies that implemented these ideas. It should be a required read for anyone in upper management.
The story itself is highly engaging, easily understandable, and very effective at communicating the complex concepts to anyone.

Inspirational!

"When No One's Watching" is a beautiful story of a woman who, after being let off from the job she has worked at for twenty years, finds herself working for a consulting firm that works to self-motivate all branches of its clients' organizations to ensure their organizations are always at optimal performance and acting the safest. As this woman, Joanna, enters into her new job, the way she sees the workplace and manager/employee relationships quickly becomes redefined - for her, the workplace changes from a saddened place where upper-management tries to bring one down into a place where dreams and ideas can blossom from even the lower reaches of the organizational hierarchy, as her consulting firm aims at creating a work culture rather than a work place. As one reads the book, motivational lessons emerge that allow one to apply the ideology being discussed in the book into one's own life and work environment.
Overall, the read was entirely fulfilling; I never wanted to put the book down! Reading about Joanna, as she learns the ways of her new consulting firm and starts to apply the firm's practices to her own husband and children too, was awe-inspiring, fully giving me the competency and understanding that I could apply the book's principles into my own life as well.

An excellent read

This book was an excellent read. The lessons of self-motivation were really brought to life by the stories about Joanne. It uses stories of work, family, and fun to illustrate points of self-motivation and leadership. Using fun anecdotes and stories really kept the book entertaining and educational at the same time. This was very fun to read, and was able to capture and hold my attention. For me, I do not normally enjoy reading books for class, but reading "When No One's Watching" was a pleasure and was very enjoyable. I found it hard to put the book down. It makes you think about your own decisions and how you are making them. The lessons in the book go far beyond lessons of a college classroom and extend into the real world. The book is definitely different from your normal self-motivation book. It is able to intertwine stories and lessons into a fun and interesting read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading "When No One's Watching" and would highly recommend it to anyone. It helped me put a new perspective on how I thought I was self-motivated.
